Solapur city is geographically located near the borders of Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh states. Due to railways, national highways, communication facilities, and trade, Solapur city is constantly developing. Previously, the trade of staple agricultural produce took place in Jodbhavi Peth and Meeth Galli, while fruits and vegetables were traded in Kasturba Market and Rani Lakshmibai Market. The livestock market was held at Kanna Chowk, and the fodder market at Baliwes, Bandhanwes, and Markandeya Temple. These locations were situated in busy areas. The space at these locations was inconvenient and insufficient for farmers and traders for conducting business. To ensure that all regulated agricultural produce transactions take place in one location, and to facilitate the storage, sale, and distribution of produce efficiently and prevent spoilage, the Solapur Agricultural Produce Market Committee acquired 105 acres, 30 gunthas, and 6/50 yards of land on the Solapur-Hyderabad National Highway, as per the final award dated March 28, 1967, from the Deputy Collector of Solapur (Ref. No. LAQ/32/82). The details are as follows.

Out of the above, 4 acres and 9 gunthas of land from T.P. 2, Plot No. 97 has been acquired by the government for the National Highway diversion as per the award dated 30/9/1971. Currently, the market committee has 101 acres and 21 gunthas of land for the main market yard. Of this, 4026.5 sq. meters of land from the processing section has been acquired for the four-laning of National Highway No. 9. Also, 2 hectares and 81 ares of land from Survey No. 208/2B in Mauje Doddi, South Solapur taluka, Solapur district, has been acquired to facilitate the future management of the market committee, including the planning of warehouses, cold storage, and pre-cooling facilities. Out of this, 9 ares of land have been acquired by the National Highway.
After taking possession of the land acquired for the main market yard, the then Chief Minister, Hon. Vasantrao Naik, officially named the main market yard as Shri Siddheshwar Market on March 20, 1969. Subsequently, development and construction works were undertaken on the said land.
